Bogart

Tomorrow is going to be like Christmas, Hanukkah, Halloween, my birthday and the first day of spring all rolled into one……And why? Cause Turner Classic Movies is going to show Bogart movies all day tomorrow. Have I seen all the movies they’re going to show tomorrow? Of course I have, what a dumb question Paul From Alabama to ask yourself…..:-) I know I’ve watched the Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep and To Have And Have Not maybe 300 or 400 times a piece, no exaggeration fellow gardeners. What I don’t understand is why everybody hasn’t……:-) I don’t even know how to explain it, watching Bogart just makes me feel good. I know not only all the plots by heart, good Lord I know the dialog by heart too. I know the endings, I know the beginnings and I know what happens in the middle too….:-) But no matter I’m going to be glued to the screen tomorrow.

In this age of DVD’s, movies on demand and digital video recorders don’t I already have all the movies myself on one or all these formats? Of course I do…..:-) I got two copies of the Maltese Falcon on DVD and both versions of the Big Sleep on one “Deluxe” DVD….:-)  So why in the world would I make such a big deal about all those movies showing on Turner Classic Movies tomorrow? One reason fellow gardeners and it’s just this…..Not only me but thousands of other Bogart fans are all going to be sitting in front of the TV tomorrow enjoying the movies together, even though we don’t even know each other, don’t matter…..I know they’re there, enjoying Bogart along with me.

Smiling when Bogart makes saps out to the bad guys…Envious with jealousy when he gets the girl every time….Even after all cigarette smoking has cost me in my life, my voice and nearly my life, I still get a kick out of Bogart smoking one  cigarette right after another, I ain’t never seen a guy enjoy a cigarette so much, even me…..:-)

Good guy, bad guy, leading man, supporting actor, scoundrel, hero and the “everyman” of all time, you gotta love Bogart……

So this evening I watered all the containers real good. I deadheaded the daisies and whatever else needed it. I filled the bird feeders and the bird baths cause tomorrow me and thousands of other folks, strangers to one another are all going to be watching Bogart movies all morning, all afternoon and all night long and thinking the same thing, “I wanna be  just like Bogart”……:-)

And one last thing about Bogart. At the end of the  movie, The Maltese Falcon when Bogart is talking to Ward Bond, who plays the police detective, Ward Bond asks Bogart, “What is that thing?” Looking at what was supposed to be the real Maltese Falcon.  And Bogart stares at the black bird, the fake Maltese Falcon, a lifeless figurine of a falcon that has cost so many lives and Bogart says,”It’s the stuff that dreams are made of” and that’s what Bogart movies are, the stuff that dreams are made of…….Sweet Dreams Fellow Gardeners…….

I love “Maltese Falcon” and have it on dvd. Also, “Beat the Devil” because I’m a big Jennifer Jones fan. I also like the one where he escapes from prison and Lauran Bacall hides him and he has plastic surgery. I can’t think of the title.

Dark Passage is the one you’re talking about and I like Beat the Devil too. It’s kinda quirky but good……Jennifer Jones is really a great actress and never more than in that movie…..

“Play it, Sam. Play As Time Goes By.” What happened to Casablanca?

They left it out, I wouldn’t have but then Turner Classic Movies doesn’t ask me what movies to show and they don’t tell me what plants to plant, Linda does that…….:-)

I love The Maltese Falcon, loved it the first time I saw it and loved it last night too…..and DVRs are the best thing since VCR’s and DVR’s know what day it is and what time it is automatically which is more than I can say for VCR’s…..Blinkety, Blink, Blink……:-)

Paul, listen to me. Throw the TV out. It will rot your brain.

Well it was pretty hot today but I did something productive, I went to an irrigation seminar and really enjoyed it….Had this guy come out today and give me a price on a system. I’m thinking about it real serious and may start saving for one so I can be ready this spring….He has some great ideas and is a sharp guy, I don’t know everything about it but know enough to know this guy knows his stuff and keeps up with what’s going on now….I’m going to keep researching and reading about it but I sure look forward to implementing a system, FINALLY…..;-)
